1 out of 5 stars This show is no Battlestar Galactica   August 30, 2010

After the incredible trip that was Battlestar Galactica, I was really looking forward to seeing what could be done with Caprica. The show started out fairly strong, but by the middle of the season it was very apparent that the plot and characters were going no where. By the end of season I could have cared less about the characters, what they felt, what they thought, where they were going, etc. The story line became very bogged down with minutiae. Even for a Battlestar plot line, the characters acted in contradictory manners. The "character physics" of the Caprica universe seemed to be ill defined and just not very interesting. I would really like to learn more about how the Cylons started, what was their relationship to their creators, etc. But I am just not willing to wade through all this crap to get there. I deleted Caprica from my Tivo line up, and I will not be adding it back for Season 2, should it ever see the light of day.

1 out of 5 stars Shockingly Bad   August 26, 2010

I watched and greatly enjoyed BSG. I had read this show was going to be completely different from BSG and I was looking forward to seeing what they came up with.

And after watching the 90 minute movie I was very much disappointed. Some of the other reviews point out the "big themes" that this project attempts to tackle. Well I cannot bring myself to watch the series after this disastrous movie so I cannot speak to how well they did, but here these themes are tackled with the grace and wit of an aircraft carrier trying to do a ballroom waltz. Atrocious writing, terrible dialogue, wooden characters and large sections that are so absurd as to come off as silly. By which point the "shocking" ending just made me laugh at how ridiculous it was.

Other then sets if there was something that Caprica could botch, it was botched. Everything that made BSG great was forgotten here and I'm not simply referring to action. I'm referring primarily to story lines and characters. Wherever the BSG writers went, please bring them back if you any hope of salvaging this show.

If you have not seen BSG, by all means please do yourself a favor and watch it. Then make sure you never stain it's memory by watching this.

I loved the updated Battlestar Galactica series, and I really wanted to love Caprica. However, it's hard to love something that literally has no reason for existing. We already know the ending to this story, and frankly, there's almost nothing in it to even justify the connection to BSG.

1 out of 5 stars 5 STAR SHOW.... 0 STAR HALF SEASON RELEASE. Give it time to develope!   August 21, 2010

Terrific show, but I am so tired of this studio's habbit of releasing half seasons. STOP IT ALREADY. This show is available for download, so there simply is no reason to spend money on discs until they produce the full season and do it in BLU RAY for crying out loud!.

The Show: some people have been frustrated with the extra time and effort put into story developement that has slowed the early pace down. This is a positive - not a negative. The thing that always set Battlestar Galactica appart was a very strong, dramatic storyline that built relationships and added drama to the action. Caprica starts in a more peaceful time where nuances are very important. I really like how they are taking time to delve into how Cylons aquire self awareness and perhaps even a soul. We have only had a half season, so relax and let the story develope. Use of the virtual world to make the cylons gain cognisence is briliant! The real world and the back stories of important families in the show is also fantastic and will pay off down the line. The main reason this show seems slow to many people really is due to the lack of commitment from the studio or producers to keep the episodes coming. The stop-and-go timing leaves viewers forgetting where they were and we all loose focus on the show, moving on to other things. Imagine how this show will be once other personalities become embodied into cylon protodypical form and conflicts increase! Don't ruin a good show with too much focus only on action. This show has a wealth to offer and I hope the poor excuse for the scy-fy channel won't ultimately wreck it.

1 out of 5 stars high hopes, but very disappointing   August 20, 2010

I was a huge fan of BSG, and for that matter pretty much any post 1990's sci-fi in space. So when I heard of a spin-off that was going to explain how it all got started, I was to say the least, very excited. This series however, is everything I hoped it wouldn't be. In short, where's the action? It is so painfully boring, a story that I could really care less about. From the majority of other reviews, I seem to be alone on this (I think all the good reviews are only because of it's association with BSG). I was hoping to see great space battles during the first cylon war, that took place across all twelve colonies (can it get any more simple), but the powers that be turned it into a soap opera about how the cylon A.I. came to be. I gave this show alot of chances, because I wanted to like it, but just can't get there. Hopefully the next season will make some dramatic changes to make it more exciting, but as it stands now, I think this show really sucks bad!
